Bandits kill principal, abduct wife, baby in Kaduna Explosion injures 10 children

Residents of Kuriga community, located along the Kaduna-Birnin Gwari highway, were thrown into confusion as bandits killed a school principal, Idris Abu Sufyan and kidnapped his wife and baby.

Local sources said the bandits invaded Sufyan’s house on Thursday night, shot him dead before whisking away his wife and son.

A friend of the victim, Sabiu Goyam, who confirmed the incident, shared pictures of the victims on his Facebook page.

Another resident who prefer anonymity described the death of the principal as disturbing, saying he was familiar with him in the village.

There has been no official reaction from the state police command’s public relations officer, ASP Mansir Hassan on the issue.

He could not be reached by phone, and there has been no response to the text sent to him on the killing.

Meanwhile, there was tension in Kidandan village of Giwa Local Government Area of Kaduna State as an explosion critically injured 10 children in the village.

The incident, it was learnt, happened yesterday afternoon when the children were playing with an object found in the nearby bush.

Sources said the object, believed to be a bomb, exploded and injured the victims.

Pictures of the victims obtained by Daily Trust on Sunday showed them drenched in blood as they were being attended to by some residents.

They were later rushed to Shika Hospital in Zaria for treatment.

The village head, Alhaji Abubakar Umar Ruka, also confirmed the incident, saying he was trying to compile the names of the victims because the police had visited the community.

“Ten people were injured and there was no death. Right now, I am compiling their names,” he said.

The councilor representi­ng Kidandan ward, Abdullahi Ismail, who confirmed the incident, said the children picked the object in the bush where they went to fetch firewood.

The state police command’s public relations officer, ASP Mansir Hassan, could not be reached on the phone, and he was yet to reply a message sent to him at the time of filing this report.

Amid the rising wave of insecurity in Abuja, Abdullahi Sabo, a resident of the nation’s capital, has been abducted.

Sabo was heading home with his wife when gunmen intercepte­d his vehicle at Sabon Lugbe, airport road.

The victim was driving in his ash coloured Lexus car with registrati­on number, ABC 769 TP when the unfortunat­e incident occurred.

It was gathered that he had left the city centre and was heading home when the attackers inside an unmarked Golf car opened fire and deflated the tyres of his vehicle.

One of the victim’s neighbours, Daramola Joseph, who spoke through telephone with our reporter, confirmed Sabo’s abduction.

Fire destroys 1,900 bags of grain in Adamawa

A fire outbreak at a grain market in the Gombi area of Adamawa State has destroyed 1,900 bags of grain worth millions of naira.

The fire, which gutted 19 shops in the market on Thursday evening, was suspected to have been ignited by a burning cigarette thrown into the bush behind the shops by an unknown person.

Fintiri, represente­d by his deputy, Professor Kaletapwa Farauta, visited the palace of the district head of Gombi, Usman Ibrahim Sarkinfada, to sympathise with him and his subjects yesterday.

The governor prayed that such a disaster would not occur again in the future.

During the visit, Fintiri warned residents to avoid setting fire in bushes near residentia­l or business areas, particular­ly during the harmattan season.
