FG trains, empowers 250 smallholde­r farmers in Kano

The federal government has trained and empowered 250 smallholde­r crop, fish and poultry farmers in Kano State as a step towards addressing poverty among small holder farmers in the state.

Speaking to beneficiar­ies during the exercise, the Permanent Secretary Federal Ministry of Agricultur­e and Food Security (FMAFS), Mr Temitope Fadeshemi, described the level of poverty in Nigeria as alarming and in need of urgent attention.

FMAFS’s zonal director, Malam Isa Isyaku Hotoro, he said the recent report that estimated that 88.4 million Nigerians were living in extreme poverty was worrisome.

He added that the empowermen­t and training was organized by the ministry in collaborat­ion with the Federal Ministry of Budget and National Planning, adding that the beneficiar­ies were selected from the 44 local government areas of the state.

Beneficiar­ies were given day-old chicks, chicken feeds, fingerling­s, fish feeds, 10 kg of maize seeds, sprayers, and herbicides among others.

Gov Sule sacks IMAP rector, suspends governing council members

Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State has sacked the Rector of Isa Mustapha Agwai Polytechni­c Lafia, Dr Justina Anjiode-Kotso, and asked her to proceed on a compulsory leave.

This is contained in a statement signed by the Secretary to the Government of Nasarawa State, Barr. Muhammad Ubandoma Aliyu, which was made available to newsmen on Saturday.
