Kutigi to walk out unruly delegates

- By Francis Okeke

Chairman of the National Conference Justice Idris Kutigi yesterday threatened to send out unruly delegates from plenary sessions.

Since the beginning of the conference, Kutigi has maintained a calm mien and is quick to smiles and laughter in his handling of the delegates who all come with different agenda and expectations.

Impatient delegates or those who disagree with what other delegates say on the floor usually yell “point of order,” “observation” or “fundamental observation” trying to interrupt.

Only one speaker is allowed to talk at a time but the interruption from one of the delegates yesterday was so much that Kutigi had to remind delegates that he has powers to send unruly delegates out.

“Those of you interrupting, if you continue to interrupt, do you know the chairman has the power to send you out? The chairman has the power to send you out,” he said.

He also urged them to concentrate on “issues of substance” so as to achieve what the National Conference sets out to achieve.
