IBB, Abdulsalami console Abbas over wife’s death

- From Onimisi Alao, Jos

Former heads of state, retired Generals Ibrahim Babangida and Abubakar Abdulsalam were in Jos over the weekend to console retired AVM Umaru Abbas on the death of his wife, Hajiya Aisha Yaka Abbas.

Speaking during the visit, Babangida said, “We grew up together, so in times like this we need to rally round and give him all the necessary support and comfort the family. We pray for him and his children to bear the loss. God created us not to live forever but everyone has his or her own time.”

“You would recall that Air Marshall Umaru Abbas nominated Governor Jonah David Jang as the military governor of Benue State in 1985 so I describe him as a true professional soldier who loves the unity of Plateau people”, he added.

General Abubakar described the late Aisha Yaka Abbas as a virtuous woman who knew and understood her husband and appealed to members of the family to bear the loss with courage. He said, “She was a dear wife whose place will be left vacant in the house. We gather here to pay our last respects to a true mother and the wife of our own.”
