Abducted Kaduna driver freed

- From Misbahu Bashir, Kaduna

Vice Chairman of the Kaduna State Petroleum Tanker Drivers (PTD) union, Alhaji Abdullahi Mohammed, who was abducted by unidentified gunmen, has been released.

Mohammed was seized by kidnappers on Friday at his residence along Matazu Close, Tudun Wada, Kaduna.

His two mobile phones were switched off shortly after the incident, making it difficult for members of his family to reach him. The kidnappers also did not make any contact with the family, Daily Trust gathered.

Mohammed was however released on Sunday evening around 8pm. A source close to the victim told Daily Trust that the kidnappers dumped him close to his house on Sunday night and drove away.

The state police spokesman, Aminu Lawan, said before the release of the victim that they were aware of the incident and that they were doing their best to free the victim.

But efforts to get the police comment on the matter yesterday proved abortive as they did not respond to calls made to them.
