Kwara PDP targets over 1m members

- From Abdullateef Aliyu, Ilorin

Kwara State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) yesterday said the party’s projection is to register over one million members in its ongoing membership registration exercise.

The party started the registration on Saturday and is expected to round it up on Friday.

Speaking with Daily Trust in Ilorin, the party’s director of publicity, Alhaji Mariam Al-Hassan, said the turn-up of members for the registration has been very impressive.

“The enthusiasm is very high because a lot of people are yearning for change. They are fed up and that is why the turnout has been very high and already people are complaining of shortage of cards.

“By the Special grace of God, we are certain that we would have registered over one million members before the end of the registration exercise”, he said.

But the state secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prince Yemi Afolayan while speaking on the development, said PDP’s target is unrealistic, querying, “If PDP is saying they want to register one million members, what is the population of Kwara?”

He said this is because “There is nobody in the PDP in Kwara again”.

It would be recalled that the APC had done its registration exercise during the nationwide membership registration conducted by the party. The party said it registered over 380, 000 members.
