Envoy urges beneficiar­ies to give back to society

The Indian High Commission­er to Nigeria Mr. Ajjampur Rangaiaj Ghanashyam has advised members of the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperatio­n Programme (ITEC) to form a group on how they can give back to their communitie­s.

The programme according to the envoy is run by the Government of India.

The envoy made the remarks in Abuja when he hosted members who benefitted from the ITEC programme.

He said the programme is demanddriv­en and response-oriented that focuses on addressing the needs of developing countries through innovative technologi­cal cooperatio­n between India and the partnering nation.

Ghanashyam said with the Special Commonweal­th Assistance for Africa Programme together with the ITEC covers 158 countries across Asia, Africa, Latin America, Central and Eastern Europe, and several Pacific and Caribbean nations.

He however disclosed that since its inception, the programme has spent over $2 billion and benefited thousands of students and profession­als from around the globe with an annual expenditur­e of about $100 million.
