En­voy urges ben­e­fi­cia­ries to give back to so­ci­ety

The In­dian High Com­mis­sioner to Nigeria Mr. Aj­jam­pur Ran­ga­iaj Ghanashyam has ad­vised mem­bers of the In­dian Tech­ni­cal and Eco­nomic Co­op­er­a­tion Pro­gramme (ITEC) to form a group on how they can give back to their com­mu­ni­ties.

The pro­gramme ac­cord­ing to the en­voy is run by the Govern­ment of In­dia.

The en­voy made the re­marks in Abuja when he hosted mem­bers who ben­e­fit­ted from the ITEC pro­gramme.

He said the pro­gramme is de­mand­driven and re­sponse-ori­ented that fo­cuses on ad­dress­ing the needs of de­vel­op­ing coun­tries through in­no­va­tive tech­no­log­i­cal co­op­er­a­tion be­tween In­dia and the part­ner­ing na­tion.

Ghanashyam said with the Spe­cial Com­mon­wealth As­sis­tance for Africa Pro­gramme to­gether with the ITEC cov­ers 158 coun­tries across Asia, Africa, Latin Amer­ica, Cen­tral and East­ern Europe, and sev­eral Pa­cific and Caribbean na­tions.

He how­ever dis­closed that since its in­cep­tion, the pro­gramme has spent over $2 bil­lion and ben­e­fited thou­sands of stu­dents and pro­fes­sion­als from around the globe with an an­nual ex­pen­di­ture of about $100 mil­lion.
