Niger governor has not delivered on campaign promises - APC
The All People Congress (APC), in Niger State has said that the state governor, Dr. Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu, is undermining the intelligence of the people of the state by declaring that he has delivered on all his political promises.
This was contained in statement signed by a member of the interim management committee of the APC in Niger, Umaru Shuaibu “Governor Aliyu promised to construct 10 km roads for each of the 25 Local Governments in the State. In the 7 years of his tenure this is yet to be fulfilled. The Governor promised to provide 5000 housing units spread across the 4 major towns of the state with 1000 units in Minna alone. In Minna the target is still not attained and qualities of the houses are grossly substandard. In Bida and Kontagora the project is abandoned, while that of Suleja is yet to even commence in the whole of the 7 years of his tenure. Almost one quarter of the number of housing units he promised are not on the ground.
“He promised to build a 5 star hotel in Minna at a whopping N5 billion, the site is still vacant after expending huge public fund. Now he has only one year to go. We wonder the type of miracle he will perform if he could not do it in the last 7 years. The Governor committed huge amount of money in the pretext of upgrading the IBB Specialist Hospital in a project he coined as Niger-American Medical City since his first term of administration. Till date no money no project.
Reacting to APC’s criticism of Governor Aliyu’s achievements, the governor’s spokesman, Danladi Ndayebo described the statement by the opposition as malicious and bereft of any shred of sincerity.
Ndayebo said Governor Aliyu has stamped his seal of excellence on all the critical sectors of the state’s economy such as roads, education, agriculture, security, health, housing and infrastructural development.
He said the reconstruction of all the major roads in the capital city, Kutigi – Fazhi road , rehabilitation of Minna industrial layout road network, Batati-Dabban road, LumaBabana Road, Bonu-Gurara Waterfalls; Mokwa-Raba road, Birigi-Lapai Gwari, Lapai-Gulu- Muye road and several others make APC’s claim on the state of infrastructure in the state untenable.
