- By Chidimma C. Okeke

The National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency (NESREA) has organised a two-day technical training workshop for its enforcement officers in Abuja.

The of DG NESREA, Dr. Benebo Ngeri, in her remarks implored participants to utilise the opportunity presented by the training to equip themselves with knowledge of environmental challenges in Nigeria.

“The training is bringing out issues that have been learnt over the years, it will also equip us to understand global concern and responsibility for environmental challenges expressed in various multi-national environmental agreements,” she said.

She said similar training would be replicated in other states, adding: “So, what we have seen globally, we are also trying to instill locally and then to bring this to the consciousness of all our staff in the states.

“This training is taking place here now and in the next one month we are going to train every staff of NESREA in all the states because as an agency, we must hear the same message, you must be told the same thing so that we all work the same way.”

She said the training would also improve the skill for staff for routine monitoring and inspection in the agency, adding that it was also aimed at introducing officers of the agency to the environmental management regulation in the country.

She said the training was organised for the accomplishment of the agency’s mandate being the pioneer agency in environmental compliance enforcement.
