FG should take responsibility for insecurity- Sen. Waku
The Peoples Democratic Party PDP led Federal Government has been accused of shying away from the responsibility of protecting the lives and properties of Nigerians amidst growing insecurity in many parts of the country.
Senator Joseph Waku made the assertion while addressing newsmen at the APC national secretariat in Abuja yesterday, when he led a delegation of APC stalwarts to intimate the national leadership of the party on the security situation in Benue state.
Waku lamented that, despite the glaring reality of the situation in the country especially in the North-Eastern and NorthCentral parts particularly in Benue State, the president at a recent function in Bauchi State blamed the governors of the region for the insecurity affecting their states.
He said in a situation where the government which controls the security apparatus turns around to blame the state governors who have no control of security agencies amounts to failure of the PDP led administration in protecting its citizens.
“Government needs to be sincere in its approaches to the security situation in the country. The Federal Government should take responsibility for the insecurity in the country” He said.
Earlier, interim state chairman of the party, Barrister Targema Takema, said the situation in Benue is beyond what many people took it to be.
“What started a few years ago as occasional skirmishes between our farmers and Fulani herdsmen has now snowballed into a full scale sustained invasion of Benue state and particularly Tiv and Idoma communities, Villages and now major towns by well armed, trained and bloodthirsty mercenaries who are not only razing down our settlements but killing most indiscriminately women,Children, youths, the aged and even the diabled,” he said.
