- From Rakiya A. Muhammad,Sokoto

The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar, has conferred the traditional title of Matawallen Sokoto on the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Alhaji Aminu Waziri Tambuwal.

The Sultan, who spoke at the turbaning ceremony for district heads recently appointed by Sokoto State Governor Aliyu Wamakko, said the title given to Tambuwal was in appreciation of “his credible style of leadership at the House of Representatives and contributions to sustainable peace and unity of Nigeria”.

He however added that the title would be conferred on the speaker at a formal event. The Sultan, who noted that the appointment of the district heads would help in bringing government closer to the grassroots, urged the appointees to do all things with the fear of God.

He also stressed the need for them to give priority to the welfare, security and socioeconomic development of the people, while urging them to steer clear of politics.
