Bomb scare at Niger sec­re­tariat

There was pan­de­mo­nium yes­ter­day at the Niger State sec­re­tariat, Minna, fol­low­ing the dis­cov­ery of an ob­ject sus­pected to be Im­pro­vised Ex­plo­sive De­vice (IED).

Daily Trust gath­ered that work­ers started flee­ing for safety when a bot­tle con­tain­ing some uniden­ti­fied sub­stances was dis­cov­ered by a group of people.

The state po­lice com­mand dis­patched a team of its an­ti­bomb squad to the sec­re­tariat fol­low­ing re­ceipt of a dis­tress call from some se­nior civil ser­vants.

An As­sis­tant Com­mis­sioner of Po­lice, Mr. Em­manuel Olokor led the anti-bomb squad to the scene, but it was later dis­cov­ered that the ob­ject was not a bomb.

Olokor emp­tied the con­tent of the bot­tle be­fore mem­bers of the pub­lic and urged them to go about their law­ful businesses.
