IG de­ploys Spe­cial Forces to stop Zam­fara at­tacks

The In­spec­tor Gen­eral of Po­lice (IGP) Mo­hammed Abubakar has or­dered the im­me­di­ate de­ploy­ment of a huge con­tin­gent of po­lice per­son­nel to stop the re­cur­rent at­tacks by crim­i­nal el­e­ments in vil­lages in Zam­fara State.

“Ten Units of Po­lice Mo­bile Force (PMF), three units of Con­ven­tional Po­lice­men, a Unit Coun­terT­er­ror­ism per­son­nel, Bor­der Pa­trol Teams and Force In­tel­li­gence per­son­nel drawn from var­i­ous Squadrons and Com­mands are to re­in­force the oper­a­tion of the ex­ist­ing Force in the af­fected ar­eas,” a state­ment from Po­lice spokesman CSP Frank Mba said yes­ter­day.

Mba said the IGP “or­dered ex­ten­sive covert op­er­a­tions from the Force In­tel­li­gence Bureau while the Bor­der Pa­trol Teams are to main­tain ad­e­quate sur­veil­lance of all bor­der ar­eas around Zam­fara to fore­stall fur­ther in­fil­tra­tion and es­cape of Ma­raud­ers through the borders.”
