- By Olayemi R. Ibrahim

The federal government has said it will support agriculture, manufacturing and electronic and electrical sectors for more growth and development.

Co-ordinating Minister of the Economy and Minister of Finance, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, made this known on Sunday during the presentation of the preliminary result of the rebased nominal GDP estimate.

She said the economy is more diversified, adding that though oil share has gone down but it is still an important index.

The finance minister added that the direction the country is going is to continues with the support for agriculture (contributing 19.82 percent which is N14,709,104.92 billion) to the economic growth.

“We are also supporting manufacturing because there is a lot we can do. Electrical and electronic, too, so that we can assemble ourselves since we are major consumer. Basic metal and iron and steel, paper and paper products because we are so low in these areas. We also need to pay more attention to pharmaceuticals,”
