5-month-old baby sur­vives burns at Kubwa

A 5-month-old baby boy yes­ter­day, sus­tained se­ri­ous burns from hot wa­ter that spilled on him at their Kubwa res­i­dence in Bwari Area Coun­cil of the FCT.

City News learnt from a fam­ily source that the vic­tim was alone with his el­der brother and grand­mother when the in­ci­dent hap­pened.

The source said the mother had dashed out of the house to pick some­thing, leav­ing the kids un­der the care of their grand­mother.

“The grand­mother was not aware when the baby crawled to where the hot wa­ter container was, which he gripped and tripped spilling the con­tent on him­self,” the source added.

Ac­cord­ing to the source, the grand­mother, who was how­ever at­tracted by the cries of the baby, quickly sent for the mother, who later took him to the Kubwa Gen­eral Hospi­tal.

In an­other in­ci­dent, a 25-year-old man was hit by a speed­ing ve­hi­cle around Gwar­inpa area, along Abu­jaKubwa ex­press­way.

A wit­ness said the vic­tim was cross­ing the ever-busy ex­press­way when he was knocked down by the ve­hi­cle.

The wit­ness added that the vic­tim sus­tained se­ri­ous in­juries on the head and hand, and was rushed to hospi­tal by the driver of the car. The head, Ac­ci­dent and Emer­gency unit, Paul Olise, said the in­jured man was brought to the hospi­tal un­con­scious, adding how­ever that both the man and the baby were re­spond­ing to treat­ment.
