5-month-old baby survives burns at Kubwa

- By Emma Elekwa

A 5-month-old baby boy yesterday, sustained serious burns from hot water that spilled on him at their Kubwa residence in Bwari Area Council of the FCT.

City News learnt from a family source that the victim was alone with his elder brother and grandmother when the incident happened.

The source said the mother had dashed out of the house to pick something, leaving the kids under the care of their grandmother.

“The grandmother was not aware when the baby crawled to where the hot water container was, which he gripped and tripped spilling the content on himself,” the source added.

According to the source, the grandmother, who was however attracted by the cries of the baby, quickly sent for the mother, who later took him to the Kubwa General Hospital.

In another incident, a 25-year-old man was hit by a speeding vehicle around Gwarinpa area, along AbujaKubwa expressway.

A witness said the victim was crossing the ever-busy expressway when he was knocked down by the vehicle.

The witness added that the victim sustained serious injuries on the head and hand, and was rushed to hospital by the driver of the car. The head, Accident and Emergency unit, Paul Olise, said the injured man was brought to the hospital unconscious, adding however that both the man and the baby were responding to treatment.
