NSC urged to release funds for C’wealth Games
An International Certified Table Tennis Umpire, John Peters, yesterday appealed to the National Sports Commission (NSC) to release funds on time for the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland.
Peters said in an interview that early release of funds would ensure thorough preparation for a brilliant performance at the Games.
He said that he was positive that the NSC would take adequate steps to ensure the commencement of closed camping for athletes before the quadrennial event commences.
“There is no doubt that the athletes have been preparing individually, but that is not good enough.
“There is need for all the athletes to be put together and retained as one because it is through such that the coach will know their lapses.
“When they are under the tutelage of a coach they have a better advantage of getting better in the sport.”
He stressed that some of the athletes who were currently on tour and those participating at the Spanish Open, would have learnt one or two things that would be useful at the Games.
“That is a parameter for the ping pong players to evaluate themselves and be in charge for the Games.
“If they meet any of the players at the Games am very sure they would know how to take them on.
“Self-evaluation and competence level are one of the things they would have checked themselves on in their preparation for the Games,” he said. ( NAN)
