Nigerian women should be empowered – Dr Nasir
Nigerian women should be economically empowered for the nation to develop, a delegate from Katsina state, Dr Talatu Nasir has said.
The delegate spoke at the National Conference while commenting on the inaugural speech of President Goodluck Jonathan yesterday.
She said “women should form the fulcrum of economic rejuvenation of the country. Women must actively participate in economic activities for the country to move forward.”
She urged the conference to look at issues of insecurity; youth unemployment, women rights and economic development and girl-child education.
She said agriculture, which is the mainstay of our economy, should be mechanized and improved to provide jobs for Nigerian youth.
She said “inputs should be provided to farmers; and connect them to consumers through the financing, handling, processing, storage and transportation of agro-allied products.”
