People hiding under insurgency to kill – Akpabio

- From Abdullahi Anako, Duste

Chairman of the PDP Governors Forum and Governor of Akwa-Ibom State, Godswill Akpabio, yesterday said some people are hiding under the insurgency in the North to kill perceived enemies in order to settle scores.

Akpabio spoke when he led 13 PDP governors and four deputy governors on a courtesy visit to Governor Sule Lamido of Jigawa State, the host of the PDP governors’ meeting at Government House in Duste. Akpabio told the gathering that it is important for leaders in the North to stand up against the insurgency because some people are hiding under it cause mayhem.

“I just held a memorial service for some victims of the civil war in AkwaIbom recently. What actually happened was that during the civil war, some people cornered the soldiers deployed to our area and used them as cover to kill senators, parliamentarians, politicians, teachers and other people they perceived as enemies. They went from house to house killing people and in some instances dragging dead bodies on the streets in front of families of victims. We must stand up and ensure that peace is reigned at all costs. Those who have not witnessed war don’t know its effect. I was a kid and I suffered Kwashiokor during the war”, he said.

He noted that the PDP is the only national party that has the spread and reach to rescue Nigeria, adding other political parties who relied on individuals don’t have the capacity to bring peace and development to Nigeria.

The forum chairman commended Lamido for the transformation in Jigawa, adding that the opposition thrived on propaganda while the PDP states deliver democracy dividends.

Governor Lamido earlier in his welcome address said there is no alternative to the PDP, adding that most members of the opposition are products of the PDP and as such can’t abuse the party. He said the PDP must sit up and put its house in order because a good PDP means a good Nigeria and a bad PDP means a bad Nigeria.
