Coy unveils modern farm in Rivers
Jocarl, a leading agricultural firm, yesterday unveiled a multi-billion naira modern breeder farm, Nigerchicks, along the Elele-Omoku Road, Egbeda town in Emohua LGA of Rivers State.
The ceremony was witnessed by selected poultry farmers and distributors, including former national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and currently, chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Audi Ogbeh.
Project Consultant of the farm, Dr. Kwasari Andrew who spoke to journalists at the venue said the breeder farm would target poultry farms and distributors in the North, South-east and South-south of the country. Andrew said the farm is observing 100 percent bio-security, pointing out that it was designed with maximum security against animal diseases.
Chief Audu Ogbeh , one of the major distributors of Jocarl, said there was need for Nigeria to invest more in agriculture and take the matter seriously, stressing that Nigerians are not yet well-fed.
“In 10 years, I see agriculture coming back in full force. May be, climbing about 30 to 35 percent. For the simple reason that we may be 200 million then, food consumption will be very high. If every Nigerian eats N1,000 a day, it will be N200 billion. Therefore, we need to invest in agriculture and take the matter very seriously because, we are not wellfed yet”, he said.
