FG: No pact to import power from Congo Republic

- By Simon Echewofun Sunday

The Minister of Power, Prof. Chinedu Nebo, has dismissed reports that Nigeria has entered into an agreement to import electricity from the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Nebo who made the denial in a statement issued by his Special Assistant on Media, Kande Daniel.

The statement said some recent media reports quoted the new Minister of State for Power, Hon. Mohammed Wakil, saying that a Memorandum of Understanding ( MoU) has been signed by both countries for Nigeria to purchase electricity from the Central African country, which is developing a huge dam.

Wakil represented the Minister of Power at the 1st Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) Investors’ Conference held in Abuja on the 24th of March where he was alleged to have disclosed the power deal with Congo.

Nebo, it would be recalled, dismissed the allegation a fortnight ago at a state-ofpower press briefing in Abuja, which he held jointly with Wakil.

At the event, the minister explained elaborately that no such agreement had been entered into or signed with Congo.
