FG reaffirms commitment to develop sectoral policies
The Federal Government has restated its commitment to the implementation of macroeconomic and sectoral policies in the country.
This was made known, Monday, by the Secretary to the National Planning Commission (NPC) Fidel Ugbo at the opening of a workshop on policy development in federal Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) in Abuja.
The workshop with the theme: “Improving Policy Development and Implementation in the Public Service,” was jointly organised by the NPC and the Federal Public Administrative Reform Programme Nigeria (FEPAR) to strengthen the capacities of MDAs in policy planning and analysis
Ugbo said that credible frameworks have been established by the government for the effective realisation of the objectives of the Transformation Agenda of President Jonathan.
He said: “In particular, the National Economic Management Team (NEMT), as well as the Economic Management Implementation Team (EMIT) and the National Economic Council (NEC) have been constituted to facilitate effective coordination of policies, strategic plans and budgets at the Federal and State levels. At the technical level, the Forum of Directorate of planning, Research and statistics (DPRS), Joint planning Board and the National Council on Development Planning (NCDP) also serves as very useful framework for effective formulation and implementation of polices and strategic plans in Nigeria.”
He said that to redesign the policy development and management system and build the professional skills of policy staff, FEPAR has embarked on the development of a policy coordination and management, which is a road map that will clearly set out the mandates, roles, relationships and account abilities of central agencies and MDAs in policy development.
