Hood­lums burn Bauchi APC sec­re­tariat

Un­known per­sons have burnt down the Bauchi Lo­cal Govern­ment sec­re­tariat of the All Pro­gres­sives Congress (APC) along Gombe Road in Bauchi.

It was learnt that the party sec­re­tariat was burnt down at 2.00am on Wed­nes­day.

The ward congress of the party was sup­posed to com­mence by 8.00am, but the in­ci­dent did not af­fect it as of­fi­cials of the party went ahead and con­ducted the congress on Wed­nes­day de­spite the fire out­break at the sec­re­tariat.

Po­lice Pub­lic Re­la­tions Of­fi­cer of the Bauchi State com­mand, DSP, Mo­hammed Haruna who con­firmed the in­ci­dent said,” It was a mis­chief. On the 09/04/2014 at about 2am in the night, in­for­ma­tion re­ceived from anony­mous source re­vealed that un­known hood­lums set ablaze APC sec­re­tariat along Gombe Road Bauchi. No life lost and value of property de­stroyed yet to be as­cer­tained. In­ves­ti­ga­tion is in progress please”.

The state in­terim chair­man of APC, Se­na­tor Mo­hammed A. Mo­hammed when con­tacted on phone, said “we are just go­ing to the sec­re­tariat now, will call you back in the next one hour. But ef­forts to reach him failed up to the time of fil­ing the story.”

A mem­ber of the party who spoke to our cor­re­spon­dent on con­di­tion of anonymity al­leged that all the of­fice equip­ments and other prop­er­ties in­side the of­fice were looted by the hood­lums be­fore set­ting it on fire.

Our cor­re­spon­dent who vis­ited the burnt sec­re­tariat heard from the sup­port­ers of the party at the sec­re­tariat that the hood­lums al­legedly carted away plas­tic, ex­ec­u­tive chairs, ta­bles and re­moved all the air con­di­tion­ing units be­fore set­ting the build­ing ablaze.

They said the hood­lums asked the se­cu­rity man at the gate to go away be­cause of his age be­fore they burnt down the build­ing us­ing petrol.
