- From Ahmed Mohammed, Bauchi

Unknown persons have burnt down the Bauchi Local Government secretariat of the All Progressives Congress (APC) along Gombe Road in Bauchi.

It was learnt that the party secretariat was burnt down at 2.00am on Wednesday.

The ward congress of the party was supposed to commence by 8.00am, but the incident did not affect it as officials of the party went ahead and conducted the congress on Wednesday despite the fire outbreak at the secretariat.

Police Public Relations Officer of the Bauchi State command, DSP, Mohammed Haruna who confirmed the incident said,” It was a mischief. On the 09/04/2014 at about 2am in the night, information received from anonymous source revealed that unknown hoodlums set ablaze APC secretariat along Gombe Road Bauchi. No life lost and value of property destroyed yet to be ascertained. Investigation is in progress please”.

The state interim chairman of APC, Senator Mohammed A. Mohammed when contacted on phone, said “we are just going to the secretariat now, will call you back in the next one hour. But efforts to reach him failed up to the time of filing the story.”

A member of the party who spoke to our correspondent on condition of anonymity alleged that all the office equipments and other properties inside the office were looted by the hoodlums before setting it on fire.

Our correspondent who visited the burnt secretariat heard from the supporters of the party at the secretariat that the hoodlums allegedly carted away plastic, executive chairs, tables and removed all the air conditioning units before setting the building ablaze.

They said the hoodlums asked the security man at the gate to go away because of his age before they burnt down the building using petrol.
