There was a lot of glamour recently when the students’ union of the University of Ilorin held its annual leadership summit. The event attracted dignitaries who included first class traditional rulers, top public functionaries, heads of corporate bodies and the university management, among others.

Highlight of the event was the launching of an academic journal titled ‘The Erudite’ which was in honour of Justice Modibbo Alfa Belgore, the former Chief Justice of Nigeria.

The vice chancellor, Prof. AbdulGaniyu Ambali, reiterated the need for national development through youth leadership training.

He extolled the honouree for his selfless contribution to the development of the nation.

Glamour was not left out, as the performing troupe of the Performing Art Department of the university entertained the audience with an acrobatic display.

Also featured at the occasion was a rib-cracking comedy by a student and comedian, Oyaz Baba.

The event saw the presentation of awards to individuals that have distinguished themselves in their chosen careers. The awardees included Justice Modibbo Alfa Belgore; Dr. Abdulfatah Ahmed, Governor of Kwara State; and Malam Yusuf Olaolu Ali, Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN).

Quadri Rasaq, a 200 Level Law student said the event had motivated him to aspire for greatness in life. “I was moved by the honouree’s citation,” he added. Another student, Isiak Sulyman described the honouree as a beacon of hope to the upcoming generation. “The students union of the university is the best in recent times,” a student who preferred anonymity noted.

In her remarks, the students’ union vice president, Miss Oluwakemi Hassan, thanked the university’s management for its unflinching support in making the programme a success.
