Asokoro hospital in dilemma over mutilated remains

- By Abubakar Yakubu

The management of Asokoro District Hospital Abuja appeared confused yesterday on how to handle 10 mutilated remains of victims that could not be embalmed.

Hospital sources told Daily Trust that the Medical Director, Dr Abubakar Ahmadu, had given a time limit of 5:30 pm to embalm 17 bodies due to lack of space in the mortuary. The hospital was planning to purchase five deep freezers to keep the mutilated remains into bags and store them there. Relatives of victims who thronged the hospital were asked to bring photographs to help them identify corpses. Our reporter noticed a doctor using such pictures to identify corpses with a lap top computer. Medical Director Abubakar Ahmadu was seen jostling between the theatre and mortuary to attend to victims and their relatives. He said 27 corpses and 26 injured victims were deposited at the hospital, adding that those admitted were in generally stable condition.
