236 affected by blast – Minister

Minister of Health Prof. Onyebuchi Chuckwu yesterday said 236 people fell victims of the Nyanya bomb blast, out of which 72 died while the rest are receiving treatment in various hospitals within the Federal Capital Territory.

Assistant on Media and Communication to the Minister Dan Nwomeh in a statement late last night said 71 were brought dead to hospitals from the blast scene while one severely injured person died at the National Hospital, Abuja.

The statement said the figures were provisional and did not include victims whose bodies were totally dismembered. “As at now, there are 13 hospitals and clinics that are handling the patients within the Federal Capital Territory. The minister commends all emergency agencies for their prompt response to rescue victims of the bomb blasts and Nigerians who rushed to various hospitals to donate blood for the patients”, it added.
