236 af­fected by blast – Min­is­ter

Min­is­ter of Health Prof. Onye­buchi Chuckwu yes­ter­day said 236 people fell vic­tims of the Nyanya bomb blast, out of which 72 died while the rest are re­ceiv­ing treat­ment in var­i­ous hos­pi­tals within the Federal Cap­i­tal Ter­ri­tory.

As­sis­tant on Me­dia and Com­mu­ni­ca­tion to the Min­is­ter Dan Nwomeh in a state­ment late last night said 71 were brought dead to hos­pi­tals from the blast scene while one se­verely in­jured per­son died at the Na­tional Hospi­tal, Abuja.

The state­ment said the fig­ures were pro­vi­sional and did not in­clude vic­tims whose bod­ies were to­tally dis­mem­bered. “As at now, there are 13 hos­pi­tals and clin­ics that are han­dling the pa­tients within the Federal Cap­i­tal Ter­ri­tory. The min­is­ter com­mends all emer­gency agencies for their prompt re­sponse to res­cue vic­tims of the bomb blasts and Nige­ri­ans who rushed to var­i­ous hos­pi­tals to do­nate blood for the pa­tients”, it added.
