‘We won’t allow individuals to hijack confab’

- By Romoke W. Ahmad

Former Nigerian Representative to the United Nations and a delegate to the ongoing national conference Ambassador Ibrahim Gambari has said that no one can hijack the conference for his or her selfish end.

He said the delegates will consider and put the interest of the country first and that Nigerians should not be in a hurry to preempt the outcome of the confab.

He said this while fielding questions from journalists at the 20th commemoration of the Rwanda genocide at the high commission in Abuja.

“Let me also say here that no one and I mean whoever is thinking of hijacking the conference for selfish parochial purpose, it will not work and I hope it does not work because we will all put Nigeria first and foremost,” Gambari said.

He said: “It is too early to conclude about the work of the delegates at the confab. As you know, we just got pass the rules which was obtained by consensus and pass the president’s speech. Now the real work begins. Give the conference a chance and I believe there are enough people of good will that will make the outcome positive.”
