Swiss Pharma Nigeria meets WHO standard

- By Judd Leonard Okafor

The World Health Organisation (WHO) has declared Swiss Pharma Nigeria Limited (swipha) as compliant with the standards of Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP).

Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of Swiss Pharma Nigeria limited, Mr. Collin Cummings said the recommendation was based on the areas inspected by WHO PQT Inspectors, the staff interviewed and the documents reviewed and considering the findings of the inspection, including the observations listed in the Inspection Report as well as the corrective action taken and planned.

Principal findings, according to him, are summarized in the WHO Public Inspection Report (WHOPIR) of the Finished Product Manufacture – Swiss Pharma Nigeria Limited (15-17 April 2013), Lagos – Nigeria.

He said Swipha, by this declaration, is the first pharmaceutical manufacturer in Sub-Saharan West Africa, which has demonstrated an acceptable level of compliance with WHO GMP, among those evaluated by WHO PQT Inspectors, thereby positioning the company to become a Nigerian Multi-national Pharmaceutical Manufacturer with top quality products for supply to the private sector, NGO and Government clients globally.

“To this end the DG – NAFDAC, Dr. Paul Orhii and his team paid a courtesy visit to Swipha’s Management to congratulate the company for this feat and urged swipha to strive as much as possible to maintain the standards already attained.

“Indeed this achievement by Swipha would not have been actualized without the specific co-operation between WHO PQT and NAFDAC which started in 2011 driven by the DG of NAFDAC, Dr. Paul Orhii and co-ordinated by the Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Group of the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (PMG-MAN)”, he said.

He asked for support from all stakeholders as they forge ahead with the prequalification of one of her products.

The management and staff of Swiss Pharma Nigeria Limited, pledges her continued commitment to (quality or international standards) and collaboration with National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) in providing leadership towards safeguarding the health of the nation.
