KSACA distributes HIV/AIDS test kits to Kano hospitals
In an effort to discharge its statutory functions of prevention and control of HIV/ AIDS in Kano State, the State Agency for the Control of AIDS, KSACA has distributed test kits to some public and private health facilities in the state.
The test kit materials distributed include 170,000 units of Determine, 800 units of Unigold and 320 Stat Pak.
Speaking during the distribution of the kits, the Director General of the Kano agency, Dr Sa’adatu Sa’idu Bala said the test kits provided were meant to compliment those provided by the implementing partners, in order to ensure continuos supply and utilization of the materials as well as avoid supply gap at all health facilities in the state.
She said as an agency whose responsibilities includes the provision of effective prevention and control mechanisms of HIV/ AIDS in the state, (State Agency for the control of AIDS), KSACA will ensure provision of necessary medical consumables in all the health facilities of the state with a view of reducing the number of persons who become HIV infected and increase access to care as well as improve health outcomes for persons living with HIV.
According to the Director General, the importance of the provision of the test kits to health facilities was appropriate, as determining ones HIV status is the first stage in checking the prevalence of the epidemic.
She further stressed that the distributed materials will assist the facilities in tracking newly-identified HIV-positive people and ensure their timely linkage to HIV medical care services.
30 health facilities benefitted from the exercise.
