KSACA dis­trib­utes HIV/AIDS test kits to Kano hos­pi­tals

In an ef­fort to dis­charge its statu­tory func­tions of preven­tion and con­trol of HIV/ AIDS in Kano State, the State Agency for the Con­trol of AIDS, KSACA has dis­trib­uted test kits to some pub­lic and pri­vate health fa­cil­i­ties in the state.

The test kit ma­te­ri­als dis­trib­uted in­clude 170,000 units of De­ter­mine, 800 units of Unigold and 320 Stat Pak.

Speak­ing dur­ing the dis­tri­bu­tion of the kits, the Di­rec­tor Gen­eral of the Kano agency, Dr Sa’adatu Sa’idu Bala said the test kits pro­vided were meant to com­pli­ment those pro­vided by the im­ple­ment­ing part­ners, in or­der to en­sure con­tin­uos sup­ply and uti­liza­tion of the ma­te­ri­als as well as avoid sup­ply gap at all health fa­cil­i­ties in the state.

She said as an agency whose re­spon­si­bil­i­ties in­cludes the pro­vi­sion of ef­fec­tive preven­tion and con­trol mech­a­nisms of HIV/ AIDS in the state, (State Agency for the con­trol of AIDS), KSACA will en­sure pro­vi­sion of nec­es­sary med­i­cal con­sum­ables in all the health fa­cil­i­ties of the state with a view of re­duc­ing the num­ber of per­sons who be­come HIV in­fected and in­crease ac­cess to care as well as im­prove health out­comes for per­sons liv­ing with HIV.

Ac­cord­ing to the Di­rec­tor Gen­eral, the im­por­tance of the pro­vi­sion of the test kits to health fa­cil­i­ties was ap­pro­pri­ate, as de­ter­min­ing ones HIV sta­tus is the first stage in check­ing the preva­lence of the epi­demic.

She fur­ther stressed that the dis­trib­uted ma­te­ri­als will as­sist the fa­cil­i­ties in track­ing newly-iden­ti­fied HIV-pos­i­tive people and en­sure their timely link­age to HIV med­i­cal care ser­vices.
