‘Se­cu­rity men nowhere to be seen’

A res­i­dent of Chi­bok town where the girls were ab­ducted said se­cu­rity per­son­nel that were sta­tioned in the town were nowhere to be found when the in­sur­gents struck

He told the Voice of Amer­ica Hausa Ser­vice: “Ac­tu­ally mem­bers of Boko Haram came yes­ter­day (Mon­day) and gath­ered the girls who are wring WAEC. They un­loaded a lorry of its goods and put the girls in the lorry and took off.”

Asked whether there were se­cu­rity per­son­nel in the town, he said “of course there were se­cu­rity men in the tow, but they run away and went into hid­ing when the in­sur­gents came.”

Borno Po­lice com­mis­sioner Lawal Tanko con­firmed the in­ci­dent, say­ing: “I sent a team of po­lice­men to the town and they are yet to re­turn, so I can­not say any­thing now.”
