‘Security men nowhere to be seen’

A resident of Chibok town where the girls were abducted said security personnel that were stationed in the town were nowhere to be found when the insurgents struck

He told the Voice of America Hausa Service: “Actually members of Boko Haram came yesterday (Monday) and gathered the girls who are wring WAEC. They unloaded a lorry of its goods and put the girls in the lorry and took off.”

Asked whether there were security personnel in the town, he said “of course there were security men in the tow, but they run away and went into hiding when the insurgents came.”

Borno Police commission­er Lawal Tanko confirmed the incident, saying: “I sent a team of policemen to the town and they are yet to return, so I cannot say anything now.”
