APC congresses suffer setback in Anambra, Kebbi
The wards and local government congresses of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have suffered another setback in Kebbi and Anambra states.
Speaking with our reporter at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja yesterday, interim national secretary of the party, Tijjani Musa Tumsah, said there were issues that arose from the congresses that needed urgent attention so that they would not be allowed to degenerate into a crisis that may hinder the activities of the party and its preparations for the national convention.
“The Anambra and Kebbi delegates were here to discuss some issues. There are some minor problems coming up, as you can see, we wanted to unite our members anywhere they are before we finish our congresses,” he said.
He added that what brought the Anambra State delegation was the issue of committee that was sent to the state to carry out the congresses which had disagreement with some members of the party on the conduct of the congresses.
According to him, the party is carrying out the necessary investigation to ascertain the true cause of the rift between the committee and other party members in the states and measures to resolve the issues.
Dismissing the rumour about the dissolution of the Anambra State congress committee, Tumsah said the committee being speculated by some people to have been disbanded headed by Prince Ogbeife is the one they held the meeting with.
On Kebbi State delegation, he said: “The party has studied the situation and held a meeting with the two sides and advised them to reconcile their differences and report back to the party within the week so that another date will be fixed for the conduct of the congresses in the state.”
Tumsah added that anything that will be done in the party regarding the congresses has clear guidelines which all members are expected to adhere strictly to in order to avoid rancour in the party.
