2015: Groups want Ogoni to pro­duce Rivers gover­nor

No fewer than 12 pres­sure groups have so far de­clared sup­port for the quest by the people of Ogoni eth­nic na­tion­al­ity of Rivers State, to pro­duce a suc­ces­sor to Gover­nor Chibuike Ro­timi Amaechi come 2015.

The groups in­clude; the Ik­w­erre-Etche Peo­ples Fo­rum (IEPU), the Rivers Voice (RV), the Niger Delta Re­nais­sance (NDR), the Coun­cil of Orashi Eth­nic Na­tion­al­ity (COEN), the Kal­abari Stake­hold­ers Fo­rum (KSF) and the Ijaw Jus­tice Fo­rum (IJF).

Oth­ers are; the Hausa Com­mu­nity Wel­fare As­so­ci­a­tion (HCWA), the Opobo Demo­cratic Move­ment (ODM), the Rivers Youth Man­date (RYM), the Obolo Con­sul­ta­tive Fo­rum (OCM), the Kal­abari Peo­ples As­sem­bly, and the Rivers Demo­cratic Congress (RDC).

The groups, in their sep­a­rate state­ments is­sued in Port Har­court, em­pha­sized that it would be un­just to de­prive the people of Rivers South East se­na­to­rial district the op­por­tu­nity to pro­duce the next gover­nor of the state.

They said the en­dorse­ment of the as­pi­ra­tion of Ogo­nis in ap­pre­ci­a­tion of their con­tri­bu­tion to the Niger Delta strug­gle for which the people of Ijaw eth­nic na­tion­al­ity have im­mensely ben­e­fited from would au­gur well for the state.
