2015: Groups want Ogoni to produce Rivers governor
No fewer than 12 pressure groups have so far declared support for the quest by the people of Ogoni ethnic nationality of Rivers State, to produce a successor to Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi come 2015.
The groups include; the Ikwerre-Etche Peoples Forum (IEPU), the Rivers Voice (RV), the Niger Delta Renaissance (NDR), the Council of Orashi Ethnic Nationality (COEN), the Kalabari Stakeholders Forum (KSF) and the Ijaw Justice Forum (IJF).
Others are; the Hausa Community Welfare Association (HCWA), the Opobo Democratic Movement (ODM), the Rivers Youth Mandate (RYM), the Obolo Consultative Forum (OCM), the Kalabari Peoples Assembly, and the Rivers Democratic Congress (RDC).
The groups, in their separate statements issued in Port Harcourt, emphasized that it would be unjust to deprive the people of Rivers South East senatorial district the opportunity to produce the next governor of the state.
They said the endorsement of the aspiration of Ogonis in appreciation of their contribution to the Niger Delta struggle for which the people of Ijaw ethnic nationality have immensely benefited from would augur well for the state.
