Toure out for two weeks

-

Manchester City midfielder Yaya Toure has been ruled out of action for at least ten days, meaning he will miss at least three of his club’s next fixtures in the Premier League.

The Ivorian picked up a muscle injury in his side’s 3-2 loss to Liverpool on the weekend, and was taken off just 19 minutes into the game.

Speaking ahead of City’s fixture against Sunderland on Wednesday, coach Manuel Pellegrini confirmed his star player will be sidelined for up to two weeks.

“Yaya has a muscle injury – we’ll see with the doctor how many days,” the Chilean tactician told the club’s official website.

“Maybe it’s not so bad as we thought at the beginning but he needs at least ten days or two weeks to recover.”

The Citizens lie in third place on the log, trailing Liverpool by seven points with two games in hand, and Pellegrini knows the tough task his team faces in the run-in to the end of the season.

“The team knows perfectly what they have to do - we still have six more games and we will fight to the end for the title,” Pellegrini said.

“If we don’t do it, it’s because Liverpool have won their four games, I don’t think anything changed on Sunday.

“We must win our games, we can’t do anything about other teams. We know exactly what we have to do – we start [on Wednesday], hoping to win one of the postponed games.

“We’ve had a good season so far and we hope we finish in the same way.”
