A police Corporal has been detained at the Lagos police command headquarters, Ikeja, for allegedly beating up a woman.

This comes as the Inspector General of Police Mohammed Abubakar at the weekend ordered the arrest of a Chief Superintendent of Police for allegedly raping a lady that was in detention.

The assault by the Corporal went viral following video clips posted on YouTube.

In a statement, Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Ngozi Braide, identified the policeman as Cpl Mohammed Nasir with force Number, 229057.

“The attention of the Lagos State Police Command was yesterday drawn to a video clip posted on some internet sites via the YouTube which depicted a police officer beating up a woman. Upon viewing the video, the commissioner of police ordered the arrest of the policeman by name Cpl Muhammed Nasir with Force Number 229057, who is believed to have been the one in the video clip. The officer is currently in police custody and investigation has commenced. The outcome would be made public,” she added.

Braide reiterated the commitment of the command to protect lives and property.

“Not only that, the Nigeria Police Force is committed to exhibiting high sense of professionalism and respect to rule of law which is in accordance with the IGP’s code of conduct for officers,” she said.
