Chaplain tells politicians: Only God makes presidents

- By Isiaka Wakili

The Chaplain of Aso Villa Chapel Obioma Onwuzurumba has told politicians that only God can make anyone president of any country.

The chaplain said this at the State House in Abuja yesterday in his Easter sermon titled “Let’s Celebrate”.

The service was attended by President Goodluck Jonathan, Youth Development Minister Boni Haruna, Minister of Culture and Tourism Edem Duke, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Power Godknows Igali, members of the National Assembly and other top government officials.

According to the chaplain, anyone who struggles to become president of a country may not get it and will “quench” under it.

He added that any president not chosen by God may collapse “under the weight of leadership”.

He said: “It takes a lot to become a president. It’s not easy. It’s not something you desire. It’s something God gives. To be a president is not a small boy’s job. It’s not a child’s play. If you look for it, you may not get it, you’ll quench under it. When God gives you, He empowers you. Go and ask Obama what he’s going through.”

The chaplain said in spite of the current challenges, the nation had every reason to celebrate.

Speaking further, Onwuzurumba criticised the media for not seeing anything good in the country.

“Nothing gives you hope in the mass media today. No wonder many young people commit suicide,” he said.

Daily Trust reports that First Lady Dame Patience Jonathan was absent at the Easter Service.
