Kano NUJ to hon­our Gaya, oth­ers

Kano State chap­ter of the Nige­rian Union of Jour­nal­ists (NUJ) yes­ter­day said that as part of its ac­tiv­i­ties for the 2014 Press Week, it would hon­our four people in the state.

The per­son­al­i­ties to be hon­oured dur­ing the Press Week are; Se­na­tor Kabiru Ibrahim Gaya, mem­ber rep­re­sent­ing Takai and Su­maila federal con­stituency, Ab­dul­rah­man Kawu Su­maila, Kano state deputy gover­nor and in­terim man­age­ment of­fi­cer of Ta­rauni Lo­cal Govern­ment Area.

Speak­ing to news­men, the state NUJ chair­man, Com­rade Ab­dul­jalal Haruna, said the union set aside the week to re­view its achieve­ments and chal­lenges with a view to en­sur­ing bet­ter per­for­mance.

“Jour­nal­ism in re­cent years has ex­pe­ri­enced a lot hud­dles rang­ing from in­se­cu­rity to pro­fes­sion­al­ism; that is why this time around, the union will rem­i­nisce on its achieve­ments and chal­lenges with a view to cor­rect­ing lapses and im­prov­ing upon suc­cesses recorded. We also in­tend to fo­cus on pro­fes­sion­al­ism and fos­ter a good re­la­tion­ship be­tween our mem­bers and se­cu­rity agents,” he said.
