Kano NUJ to honour Gaya, others

Kano State chapter of the Nigerian Union of Journalist­s (NUJ) yesterday said that as part of its activities for the 2014 Press Week, it would honour four people in the state.

The personalit­ies to be honoured during the Press Week are; Senator Kabiru Ibrahim Gaya, member representi­ng Takai and Sumaila federal constituen­cy, Abdulrahma­n Kawu Sumaila, Kano state deputy governor and interim management officer of Tarauni Local Government Area.

Speaking to newsmen, the state NUJ chairman, Comrade Abduljalal Haruna, said the union set aside the week to review its achievemen­ts and challenges with a view to ensuring better performanc­e.

“Journalism in recent years has experience­d a lot huddles ranging from insecurity to profession­alism; that is why this time around, the union will reminisce on its achievemen­ts and challenges with a view to correcting lapses and improving upon successes recorded. We also intend to focus on profession­alism and foster a good relationsh­ip between our members and security agents,” he said.
