APC to conduct rerun in 3 Niger LGs

- By Balarabe Alkassim

Following the crises arising from the local government and ward congresses of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Niger State, the states congress committee has ordered a rerun of the congresses to resolve the issues.

Chairman of the committee, Barrister Usman Dalhatu informed Daily Trust on phone that the decision was taken after protests by members of the party in some of the local governments in the state.

“Two sides claimed to have conducted separate congresses and each of them said the candidates from his side won. This prompted us to take the decision of having a re-run in the affected local governments areas,” he said.

The chairman said the committee convened a stakeholders’ meeting in Minna on Thursday and discussed the issue and that all the stakeholders agreed on the decision to hold the congresses again.

“We held a meeting and all the sides claiming victory in the congresses in each of the local governments was represented. We have now resolved to conduct a rerun in Suleja, Gurara, and Tafa local governments. As I am talking to you, I am signing some of the papers about the decision taken for the congresses in the three local governments,” he said.

Dalhatu said the ward congresses re-run would be held on Tuesday April 22nd, while the local government congresses will hold on Thursday, April 24, in the three local governments while the state congress will hold on Monday April 28 in the state.

A member of the party in Suleja who is also a serving APC councilor, Jibrin Nalado also informed Daily Trust, that they earlier objected to the idea of a re-run but that they have now decided to participate in it.
