As­pi­rant wants Jos North APC congress can­celled

An as­pi­rant for the chair­man­ship of the All Pro­gres­sives Congress (APC) in Jos North lo­cal govern­ment of Plateau State, Ab­dul­nasir Saleh has called for the can­cel­la­tion of his LG congress, say­ing it was marred by ir­reg­u­lar­i­ties.

A pe­ti­tion ad­dressed to the chair­man of the party congress com­mit­tee which was also made avail­able to jour­nal­ists is­sued by the Ab­dul­nasir Saleh cam­paign or­gan­i­sa­tion said “The pur­ported lo­cal govern­ment elec­tion was con­ducted in an at­mos­phere of ran­cour and con­fu­sion as ex­hib­ited dur­ing the congress.”

Saleh who lost to Yakubu Has­san said it is sus­pi­cious “how 434 del­e­gates sud­denly pro­duced 700 votes at the end of the said ex­er­cise,” al­leg­ing that 266 votes were il­le­gal.

He al­leged that Yakubu Has­san polled 348 votes, while Ab­dul­nasir Saleh got 111, Shehu Liti, 220, and Dan­ladi Kulito 7, while 14 votes were de­clared as in­valid votes, mak­ing the to­tal votes cast to stand at 700.

Chair­man of the party’s congress com­mit­tee, Suny Ajik in a phone con­ver­sa­tion said ag­grieved mem­bers should chan­nel their com­plaints to the in­terim party chair­man in the state. Ajik ex­plained that “as the chair­man of the com­mit­tee, I was given a guide­line and I fol­lowed it con­cur­rently and the elec­tion was con­ducted peace­fully.”
