Aspirant wants Jos North APC congress cancelled
An aspirant for the chairmanship of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Jos North local government of Plateau State, Abdulnasir Saleh has called for the cancellation of his LG congress, saying it was marred by irregularities.
A petition addressed to the chairman of the party congress committee which was also made available to journalists issued by the Abdulnasir Saleh campaign organisation said “The purported local government election was conducted in an atmosphere of rancour and confusion as exhibited during the congress.”
Saleh who lost to Yakubu Hassan said it is suspicious “how 434 delegates suddenly produced 700 votes at the end of the said exercise,” alleging that 266 votes were illegal.
He alleged that Yakubu Hassan polled 348 votes, while Abdulnasir Saleh got 111, Shehu Liti, 220, and Danladi Kulito 7, while 14 votes were declared as invalid votes, making the total votes cast to stand at 700.
Chairman of the party’s congress committee, Suny Ajik in a phone conversation said aggrieved members should channel their complaints to the interim party chairman in the state. Ajik explained that “as the chairman of the committee, I was given a guideline and I followed it concurrently and the election was conducted peacefully.”
