SON renews war on fake products

- From Dele Ogunyemi, Ibadan

The Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) has announced its readiness to recruit 5 million people across the federation into its newly inaugurated National Coalition to boost the ongoing war against the production of fake and substandard products in the country.

This announcement came on the heels of the appointment of the the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar, as the SON Ambassador in Nigeria.

The Director-General of SON, Dr. Joseph Nkem Odumodu, disclosed this in Ibadan, last week, during a Walk to Live Enlightenment programme aptly tagged: “Zero Tolerance against Substandard Products,” organized by the organisation for selected stakeholders in Oyo State.

He said: “We have already formed a National Coalition. Indeed, our plan is to recruit up to five million Nigerians who are going to be part of this crusade. We believe that five million is a critical mark that we will use to sustain this campaign to a level that it would be impossible for people to bring substandard products into Nigeria.”
