Lobi keeper Melai promises more goals

- By David Ngobua

Lobi Stars’ first choice goalkeeper and leading goalscorer, Matthew Terkaa Melai has said he hopes to score more goals before the end of the ongoing season.

Melai scored Lobi Stars lone goal from the spot on Sunday in Katsina-Ala to hand Lobi Stars 1-0 victory over visiting Nembe City.

The goalkeeper has scored against Gombe United and Kaduna United from the penalty spot to ensure his team earned the maximum points.

Speaking to Daily Trust yesterday, Melai expressed gratitude to God for using him to give his team victory on each of the occasions.

He said it is not easy to take penalty kicks especially during matches but over time, he has built the confidence.

Melai maintained that being a goalkeeper, he has a good idea of what goes on in the mind of other keepers which makes it easier for him to beat them from the spot.

According to him, he admires goalkeepers like Vincent Enyeama who are good at taking crucial penalty kicks.

“I am really happy that I converted the penalty that gave my team victory over Nembe City.

“It was a difficult game because our opponents didn’t want to play. All they wanted was a draw. However, when we got that penalty, God used me to get the three points for my team,” he stated.
