Taraba acting governor donates to crisis victims

- From Itodo Daniel Sule, Jalingo

Taraba acting governor, Alhaji Garba Umar, yesterday ordered the delivery of ten truckloads of relief materials to people in communities affected by crisis in the state.

Umar, while briefing newsmen on the security situation in the state, noted that additional troops have been deployed to the areas and that the situation is now under control.

He said the relief materials are to be distributed to crisis victims in Wukari, Takum, Gassol, Gidin Doruwa and Ibi to mitigate the hardship they are facing, adding that a total of 29 truckloads of relief materials have been dispatched since the outbreak of crisis in those areas.

He said government has taken a number of proactive and remedial actions since the outbreak of crisis, including holding of security meetings with traditional rulers at all levels, constituting committees, deploying senior civil servants to their respective areas to assist in promotion of peace, deployment of more security personnel and more patrol vans, among others.

Umar expressed pains over fresh outbreak of crisis at Wukari, Ibi and Gidin Doruwa saying, “As a government, we are greatly pained by this retrogressive step which has not only affected lives, but also thrown thousands of people into untold hardship.”

He urged people to stop politicizing the crisis, saying security challenge is not peculiar to Taraba State.
