Kwara Assembly urges action on flood

- From Sikirat Shehu, Ilorin

The Kwara State House of Assembly yesterday urged the state government to put in place measures that would forestall recurrence of flood as witnessed in parts of the state two years ago.

The House made the call in its resolution following a motion on the loss of lives and property caused by flooding which preceded a downpour penultimate week in some parts of Ilorin.

The issue was raised by the member representing llorin South Constituency, Saadu Tanke (APC). The House also directed the state government to provide relief materials to over 100 residents rendered homeless by rainstorm in Baruten Local Government Area of the state.

The lawmakers further sympathised with families of three people who died in the recent flood, while urging the state Ministry of Works and Town Planning Development Authority to be alive to their responsibility by providing proper drainages along waterways.

The legislature advised residents of the state to desist from dumping refuse in drainages, especially during the rainy season.
