Po­lice ar­rest 4 poly stu­dents over rob­bery

The Kwara State Po­lice Com­mand yes­ter­day pa­raded seven sus­pected crim­i­nals who were ar­rested in the past one week.

The state Com­mis­sioner of Po­lice, Am­brose Ais­abo, said among the sus­pects, were four stu­dents of the Federal Polytech­nic, Offa.

The po­lice boss, who said one of the sus­pects was a neigh­bour to the vic­tim, added that dur­ing in­ter­ro­ga­tion the stu­dents con­fessed to be mem­bers of a cult group.

He gave names of the sus­pects as Olawuyi Ba­batunde, Osadahin Matthew, Bamikole Em­manuel and Ade­bisi.

“On April 18, 2014, at about 0015hrs at Atari area of Offa, while on raid of crim­i­nal hide-outs by of­fi­cers of the com­mand, the sus­pects were ar­rested af­ter suc­cess­fully rob­bing one Ade­olu Em­manuel of his property in­clud­ing lap­tops, four as­sorted tele­phones, one deck with speak­ers and N30,000 cash. On in­ter­ro­ga­tion, the sus­pects con­fessed to be mem­bers of the Eiye cult group and also con­fessed to have been re­spon­si­ble for rob­beries around Offa and its en­vi­rons in re­cent times”, the com­mis­sioner said. He added that the sus­pects would be charged to court once in­ves­ti­ga­tion into the mat­ter is con­cluded.

The com­mis­sioner, who said the po­lice also re­cov­ered two AK 47 ri­fles which were dropped by hood­lums in a bush near the polytech­nic, ex­pressed con­cern at the rate by which un­der­grad­u­ates of ter­tiary in­sti­tu­tions in the state en­gage in armed rob­bery.

Last month, the state po­lice com­mand pa­raded some stu­dents of the Col­lege of Health Tech­nol­ogy, Offa, for of­fences rang­ing from rape, cultism and armed rob­bery.
