The Environmental Transformation Committee (ENTRACO), Orlu zone, has commenced evacuation of refuse dump in Ubaha Okporo in Orlu Local Government Area of Imo State.

The heaps of refuse arising from indiscriminate dumping by people, have already covered large spans of land and succeeded in blocking the major road in the area, making the road impassable.

Briefing newsmen at the clearing site, the Special Assistant to the Governor on ENTRACO, Orlu zone, Mr. Charles Nwosu, said that the exercise signified the formal commencement of evacuation of all the waste from the unauthorised place into the borrow pit, a place designed for dumping of refuse in the area.

He expressed displeasure with indiscriminate dumping of refuse and blocking the road, adding that the exercise would be extended to other parts of the area in the zone.

He said that ENTRACO was working with the offices of the Mayoral Affairs and the LGA chairman, adding that a committee has been constituted to monitor and ensure that people who dump refuse indiscriminately are sanctioned.

While urging the people of the area to desist from taking laws into their own hands, he admonished them to obey the ENTRACO law by ensuring that their environment is clean.

He said the committee has already procured waste baskets to be distributed to Keke operators in the zone.

Also speaking, the Managing Director of Elihen Consults Ltd and the Project Consultant, Osuji Henry Ezechinyere, said it became necessary for government to evacuate refuse dumps in the area in order to guarantee free movement of people and vehicles.

Expressing joy and happiness, a member of the community and President Orie Opkoro Main Market, Evang. Clement Okorie, called for constant check and monitoring of indiscriminate refuse dumping in the place.

He regretted that the refuse blocked the roads, making it impassable, adding that if nothing was done in the area of monitoring the place, it would be a waste of time.
