Minister places priority on staff welfare

The Ministry of Environmen­t would improve the welfare of its workers in order to boost their moral and enhance its productivi­ty.

This was stated by the Minister of Environmen­t Mrs. Laurentia Mallam in the company of ministry’s Permanent Secretary Rabi Shuaibu Jimeta.

The occasion was the handing over ceremony to Jimeta by the former permanent secretary of the ministry Mr. Taye Haruna, at the weekend, in Abuja.

The minister said that her priority was to create a good working environmen­t by ensuring good staff welfare, noting that adequate incentive to staff will spur them toward optimal performanc­e which is in line with the present administra­tion’s transforma­tion agenda.

Mallam stated that no desired achievemen­t will be accomplish­ed without putting staff welfare into considerat­ion, adding that “whatever is due to staff should be given to them but whenever we cannot meet their demands, explanatio­ns should be advanced immediatel­y.”

The minister, while welcoming the new permanent secretary, also commended the outgoing one for his commitment to duty and wished him success in his new posting.

She also assured Jimeta of the unflinchin­g support from the staff, advising the staff to work as a team in moving the ministry and the country forward.

Earlier in his speech, the outgoing permanent secretary, Haruna commended the staff for the support they gave him during his 20 months stay in the ministry and appealed to them to extend such hand of fellowship to the new permanent secretary.

Jimeta also solicited for cooperatio­n from the entire workforce to enable her achieve the desired goals.
