Min­is­ter places pri­or­ity on staff wel­fare

The Min­istry of En­vi­ron­ment would im­prove the wel­fare of its work­ers in or­der to boost their moral and en­hance its pro­duc­tiv­ity.

This was stated by the Min­is­ter of En­vi­ron­ment Mrs. Lau­ren­tia Mal­lam in the com­pany of min­istry’s Per­ma­nent Sec­re­tary Rabi Shuaibu Jimeta.

The oc­ca­sion was the hand­ing over cer­e­mony to Jimeta by the for­mer per­ma­nent sec­re­tary of the min­istry Mr. Taye Haruna, at the weekend, in Abuja.

The min­is­ter said that her pri­or­ity was to cre­ate a good work­ing en­vi­ron­ment by en­sur­ing good staff wel­fare, not­ing that ad­e­quate in­cen­tive to staff will spur them to­ward op­ti­mal per­for­mance which is in line with the present ad­min­is­tra­tion’s trans­for­ma­tion agenda.

Mal­lam stated that no de­sired achieve­ment will be ac­com­plished with­out putting staff wel­fare into con­sid­er­a­tion, adding that “what­ever is due to staff should be given to them but when­ever we can­not meet their de­mands, ex­pla­na­tions should be ad­vanced im­me­di­ately.”

The min­is­ter, while wel­com­ing the new per­ma­nent sec­re­tary, also com­mended the out­go­ing one for his com­mit­ment to duty and wished him suc­cess in his new post­ing.

She also as­sured Jimeta of the un­flinch­ing sup­port from the staff, ad­vis­ing the staff to work as a team in mov­ing the min­istry and the coun­try for­ward.

Ear­lier in his speech, the out­go­ing per­ma­nent sec­re­tary, Haruna com­mended the staff for the sup­port they gave him dur­ing his 20 months stay in the min­istry and ap­pealed to them to ex­tend such hand of fel­low­ship to the new per­ma­nent sec­re­tary.

Jimeta also so­licited for co­op­er­a­tion from the en­tire work­force to en­able her achieve the de­sired goals.
