…Giggs takes over temporarily

-

Manchester United midfielder Ryan Giggs has been placed in temporary charge of first team affairs after the sacking of manager David Moyes yesterday, the English Premier League club said.

Giggs, 40, had been an assistant to Moyes during the Scot’s ill-fated 10-month spell in charge of the champions and will step in for the final four league fixtures while the club decides on a permanent replacement, United said in a statement.

The champions are seventh in the table, 23-points behind leaders Liverpool, and host Norwich City on Saturday then face Sunderland and Hull City before a final trip to Southampton.

Reaction to Manchester United’s sacking of manager David Moyes yesterday:

“There is no disguising that the football this season has been poor, the results have been poor. As a fan, I’ve not enjoyed watching it. I’m sure David Moyes himself hasn’t enjoyed watching it.” - Former United defender Gary Neville.

“The players have to take massive responsibility. They are the ones out on the football pitch. I never once in my 18-year career at United turned around after the game and thought ‘you lost us that game, boss’. It’s always the players.” - Neville.
