Suspected insurgents kill soldier, 2 civilians in Adamawa

Gunmen suspected to be Boko Haram insurgents have killed a soldier and two civilians in Sabongari Hyambula village of Madagali local government area of Adamawa state Daily Trust learnt.

An eye witness, Sulaiman Baba said two of the assailants were also killed by soldiers during a gun battle during the Tuesday night attack on a military check point.

“The attackers came in a large convoy and launched attack on the military checkpoint with the intention of routing them before proceeding to the town but the soldiers repelled them after a prolonged gun battle which resulted in the death of five persons including a soldier, two civilians and two of the attackers,” he said.

Baba added that residents ran to nearby bushes and the hill tops for fear of being caught in the fight.

Community leaders have persuaded the fleeing residents to return to their homes as the military strive to return normalcy to the community.

The Army Public Relations Officer of the 23 Brigade Yola, Captain Jafaru Nuhu said he was not aware of the incident, saying “but I will find out later.”
