Sus­pected in­sur­gents kill sol­dier, 2 civil­ians in Adamawa

Gun­men sus­pected to be Boko Haram in­sur­gents have killed a sol­dier and two civil­ians in Sabon­gari Hyam­bula vil­lage of Mada­gali lo­cal govern­ment area of Adamawa state Daily Trust learnt.

An eye wit­ness, Su­laiman Baba said two of the as­sailants were also killed by soldiers dur­ing a gun bat­tle dur­ing the Tues­day night at­tack on a mil­i­tary check point.

“The at­tack­ers came in a large con­voy and launched at­tack on the mil­i­tary check­point with the in­ten­tion of rout­ing them be­fore pro­ceed­ing to the town but the soldiers re­pelled them af­ter a pro­longed gun bat­tle which re­sulted in the death of five per­sons in­clud­ing a sol­dier, two civil­ians and two of the at­tack­ers,” he said.

Baba added that res­i­dents ran to nearby bushes and the hill tops for fear of be­ing caught in the fight.

Com­mu­nity lead­ers have per­suaded the flee­ing res­i­dents to re­turn to their homes as the mil­i­tary strive to re­turn nor­malcy to the com­mu­nity.

The Army Pub­lic Re­la­tions Of­fi­cer of the 23 Bri­gade Yola, Cap­tain Ja­faru Nuhu said he was not aware of the in­ci­dent, say­ing “but I will find out later.”
