Fraser-Pryce, Rudisha top NY meet

Reigning Olympic 800m champion David Rudisha, two-time Olympic 100m champion Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce and Britain’s reigning world 400m champion Christine Ohuruogu will compete in the New York Diamond League meet on June 14, organisers have said.

Rudisha, a 25-year-old Kenyan, has run six of the 10 fastest 800m in history, including a world record of 1min 40.91sec in the 2012 Olympic final.

His winning time of 1:41.74 in the 2012 New York meeting was the fastest time ever on US soil. FraserPryc­e, 27, won the 2008 and 2012 Olympic crowns and has six world titles, including the 100, 200 and 4x100m relay last year to make the Jamaican sprint queen last year’s IAAF Women’s Athlete of the Year.

Ohuruogu, 29, won the 2008 Olympic 400m title as well as last year’s world crown and ranks second in the world this year.

New Zealand’s Valerie Adams, 29, a two-time Olympic and fourtime world shot put champion, is also in the field. She has 46 consecutiv­e victories dating to August 22, 2010, and had eight of last year’s top-10 world performanc­es. Reigning world indoor high jump champion and 2013 outdoor world runner-up Mutaz Essa Barshim of Qatar and American Erik Kynard, the 2012 Olympic runner-up, will compete against reigning world champion Bohdan Bondarenko of Ukraine.

Tinsley, the 2012 Olympic 400 hurdles runner-up, and 2012 bronze medalist Javier Culson of Puerto Rico have also entered.

Already in the line-up was Jamaican Yohan Blake, the 2011 100m world champion and a member of the 2012 Olympic champion 4x100 relay; reigning Olympic 100 hurdles champion Sally Pearson of Australia and reigning Olympic and world indoor pole vault champion Jenn Suhr of the United States.
