FCT APC holds peace­ful congress, elects new ex­ec­u­tives

Federal Cap­i­tal Ter­ri­tory (FCT) chap­ter of the All Pro­gres­sives Congress (APC) has re­turned 31 of­fi­cials to steer the af­fairs of the p party in the FCT.

In the elec­tion which held in Gwag­wal­ada, Al­haji Ab­dul­ma­lik Us­man emerged as chair­man of APC in the FCT, while Al­haji Ab­dul­lahi K Kan­dido, from Abuja Mu­nic­i­pal Area Coun­cil, was elected sec­re­tary of the party.

Three hun­dred and eighty two del­e­gates from the six Area Coun­cils in the FCT elected the 31 of­fi­cials through con­sen­sus ar­range­ment.

For­mer FCT se­na­tor, Al­haji Adamu Sidi-Ali, who was the re­turn­ing of­fi­cer, de­scribed the process which in­volved the use of “voice vote’’ as peace­ful and suc­cess­ful.

He called on party mem­bers to work hand in hand with the newly elected party lead­ers in or­der to build the party stronger.

In his ac­cep­tance speech, the newly elected chair­man of the APC in FCT, Al­haji Us­man Ab­dul­ma­lik, ex­pressed grat­i­tude to God and the party mem­bers over his vic­tory and as­sured the mem­bers of a new era of ex­em­plary party lead­er­ship.

He promised to work with his team in en­sur­ing that APC takes over the coun­try’s lead­er­ship dur­ing the 2015 gen­eral elec­tions.

“We will make sure that we go down to the grass­roots in all the 62 po­lit­i­cal wards in the FCT and, by God’s grace, take over the lead­er­ship of the coun­try in 2015,’’ he said.

For­mer chair­man of Gwag­wal­ada Area Coun­cil, Al­haji Zakari An­gulu Dobi, while com­ment­ing on the out­come of the congress, de­scribed it as suc­cess­ful. He urged Nige­ri­ans to be­lieve in the party and to be­ware of par­ties with am­bigu­ous man­i­festos.
