- By Francis Okeke

President Goodluck Jonathan will tomorrow flag off a N960 billion housing scheme for workers across the 36 states of the federation including the FCT, President of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) Comrade Abdulwahed Omar has said.

The NLC is collaborating with a private property developer, Kriston Lally EPC Nigeria Ltd to execute the project for its willing members and other workers in the country.

Omar and the Managing Director of Kriston Lally Alhaji Mustapha Madawaki, while addressing journalists said Jonathan will perform the ground breaking ceremony in Karsana, Abuja.

The NLC and Kriston Lally, had since April last year, signed a deal to undertake the project in a bid to “reduce the 40 million housing deficit” in the country as revealed by a United Nations study.

The NLC President told reporters that the need to bolster the dignity of labour and the quest to ensure workers reap their reward on earth necessitated the collaboration.

“What we are after is to lay this very solid foundation for Nigerian workers and it is not only workers in Abuja, but workers all over the country. So far, we have written letters to so many state governors and the responses have been very positive. They are also very eager; many of them have promised giving us lands,” the NLC president said.
