Zamfara albinos seek govt aid
About 500 registered albinos under the Albinos Association of Nigeria, Zamfara State chapter, yesterday stormed the state Hizba headquarters in Gusau, calling on the state government to assist them either financially or with medication.
Secretary of the association, Mallam Lawali Ibrahim Jaurin Gabas, said his association needs about N4 million monthly for the procurement of drugs that would protect members from “solar radiation that is now at its peak in the northern part of the country”.
“Any albino who exposes himself to the intense solar radiation risks skin cancer. About 30 members of my association are already suffering from cancer owing to the inability to purchase necessary drugs,” he said.
Responding, the state chairman of the Hizbah commission, Dr Atiku Balarabe Zawiyya, promised to to pass their request to the state government.
