Zam­fara al­bi­nos seek govt aid

About 500 reg­is­tered al­bi­nos un­der the Al­bi­nos As­so­ci­a­tion of Nigeria, Zam­fara State chap­ter, yes­ter­day stormed the state Hizba head­quar­ters in Gusau, call­ing on the state govern­ment to as­sist them ei­ther fi­nan­cially or with med­i­ca­tion.

Sec­re­tary of the as­so­ci­a­tion, Mal­lam Lawali Ibrahim Jau­rin Gabas, said his as­so­ci­a­tion needs about N4 mil­lion monthly for the pro­cure­ment of drugs that would pro­tect mem­bers from “so­lar ra­di­a­tion that is now at its peak in the north­ern part of the coun­try”.

“Any al­bino who ex­poses him­self to the in­tense so­lar ra­di­a­tion risks skin cancer. About 30 mem­bers of my as­so­ci­a­tion are al­ready suf­fer­ing from cancer ow­ing to the in­abil­ity to pur­chase nec­es­sary drugs,” he said.

Re­spond­ing, the state chair­man of the Hizbah com­mis­sion, Dr Atiku Balarabe Zawiyya, promised to to pass their re­quest to the state govern­ment.
